Samsung is gearing up to revolutionize the semiconductor industry yet again. According to recent rumors, the tech giant has initiated the development of its 2nm chip technology, codenamed 'Thetis.' This ambitious project aims to follow the company's groundbreaking 3nm GAA (Gate-All-Around) technology, which is set to power the upcoming Exynos 2500 chipset. With Apple's COO Jeff Williams reportedly visiting Taiwan to secure TSMC's first 2nm wafers, Samsung's move signifies its intent to stay competitive and even surpass its rivals in the cutting-edge semiconductor race.

The name 'Thetis' is steeped in mythology, borrowed from the Greek goddess of the sea and mother of Achilles, emphasizing a lineage of generations. It symbolizes Samsung's aspirations to create a legacy of successive technological advancements. The company is planning different versions of its 2nm process, much like its 3nm variations. This iterative approach will help Samsung fine-tune its technology, aiming to reduce power leakage and boost power efficiency.

Samsung has ambitious plans to commence mass production of its 2nm GAA wafers by 2025. The Exynos 2500, expected to utilize the second-generation 3nm GAA node, is a stepping stone toward this goal. Samsung's GAA technology, already a significant advancement, could potentially outshine TSMC's 2nm process. However, the real challenge for Samsung has always been its yield rates.
